I have an old article of one kicking around somewhere, I will try and find it.
They did go the way of the dinosaurs, Only made one or two years, and had problems with them, from what I've read.
well I did get some response about the
axle. Just about every auto maker of the
30's, 40's had a 2 speed rear axle available. Most notable is the Columbia
rear end, but I know there were other makes.
I always thought that it would be the
answer to some of the fuel economy that
we look for. You can have a tall gear for
drag racing, and a low gear for cruising.
Hey guyus, these things are still around, i see them about every day. the damn things weight about 200 lbs for the center section, though. mainly on L-8000 and L-9000 Fords, although there a few Internationals at work with them
You know, when you think about it, a gear vendors overdrive would offer the same fuel economy advantage that a two speed rear axle would.... I mean, a 3.73 rear gear effectivly becomes 2.83 with a gear vendors kicked on! I've never run one, so I don't know how well they work...
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
