I am striking out on my search for a door for my 62. How hard would it be to use the door skin off of a 4 door to repair the door skin on my 2 door? It is just the front of the door under the vent window that is mangled and I figured I could just use the front of the door skin off of the other door. Does this sound feasible? How hard is it to remove a door skin?

Any tips on removing the skin off of the 4 door? I need to cut it and remove it from under the vent window to the front most edge. I need to keep the front edge intact to reuse on my car. If anyone is wondering where the donor door is coming from I have a 4 door parts car.

Just for reference, any 2-door will work. Door itself doesn't care if it's a sedan, hardtop or convertible. Also the basic door from a '61 will work. I have a '61 door on the passenger side of my '62 convertible. Molding holes had to be filled and new ones drilled but for an option it worked well.

Every time I find a 61 or 62 it is either a 4 door, missing the driver's side door or they want a new car price for it. I have been looking for 3 years and I have exhausted my resources. Half of the leads I get end up not even being a Ford. I found a 61 in a yard the other day. It is a solid body that has no floor, motor, transmission and no interior. The owner wants $2500.00 for it and the bottom of the door I could use is rusted out from sitting open for a couple of decades. I figured the 4 door option might work since I already have it and this door is keeping my car from getting painted. I really wish someone offered a skin for these.

Get the door, and cut the panel off carefully about 5 inches LARGER that you'd need on your door. then Cut & Paste.

It's much harder than that but it's what happens in the overview

I wish there was a cut and paste option or even an easy button for this. Mine is mangled from the back of the vent window all the way to the front edge of the door. While looking for this door I have found a ton of early 60s Mopars, several Thunderbirds, a Falcon I am still wanting and the biggest breeding ground for ticks and chiggers in the southeast. The damage was done when the car hit a bridge in the early 90s. It got the door and the fender. The fender came off the parts car, but this door is a rare as pants on Porky Pig.

Stan the ford man maybe but shipping from Battleground, WA to you might be pricey. I'm not even positive he ships but i'm sure he probably does. He seems to be known coast to coast. I first heard of him when i lived in MD way back.

This is an old yard, nothing much newer than the occasional 80s Escort. He has trailer after sagging trailer brimming with sheetmetal, trim, d/train, all neatly organized, plus 100s of field cars, but he's a one-man show now, has odd hours....so give him time to reply. I know he ships.

I was thinking of using a 4 door to patch the rust in the lower front and rear of my doors on my 61.

Careful using him. Don't count on him to give you accurate information. Verify everything yourself, that something is right for your car. If he's wrong, your on your own.

After looking everywhere and trying to find a replacement door I found another solution. A friend of mine is going to repair it. He said it will be no problem. I am glad I got that covered. Now I just need to wrap up that steering.
