After I bought all new motors for my Selectric system I decided to look at one of the busted ones to see what it would take to repair it.

A pair of nippers is all that's needed to remove plastic on the "pulling" side as it is extremely brittle. One look at the cylinder shape diaphragm told me all I needed to know. There were two very visible hairline cracks in the rubber (pic) that leaked enough to prevent any pull at all.

So I slapped some electrical tape over the two holes and ta-da! Could easily suck the diagram all the way down (pic).

Without constant suction the diaphragm would work its way back up, maybe that's normal, IDK.

I'm sure my repair can be improved upon but I thought I would share with any cheapskates out there who want to do it themselves and maybe save $50.
