I have seen a number of threads (I think I started one a while ago) about rim and tire fittment. I am starting this thread for members to post the specifics of their rime and tire combos. I hope that this will become a good reference for all of us and for those yet to join. If I have missed a variable let me know and I will add it.

Please provide the following (You can simply copy and paste the following and include your answers): Thanks!

I have my orig 15" x 6" wheels but with 235 75s on them. They fill the wheel wells but hey look like balloons! I am looking for something better. My 65 Galaxie is shiny black.

I believe my pattern is 4 1/2" with five 1/2" lugs. Does anyone know if a cadilliac/GM 115 mm with 7/16" (?) and high offset will fit ok in my car (PB shoes, PS AT AC)?

thanks in advance

Good stuff. I know the wheel wells changed between '64 and '65 (got smaller) - anyone know if there was a substantial change between '65 and '68? I was hoping to run 275/60/15 MT Drag Radials at the track but I don't want to buy them (and 15X8 rear rims) just to find that they don't fit - and I haven't found a loaner set for fittment yet.

well,if theyre anything like the 1968 wheel well itll fit easy,i cut the lip on the drivers side but after i put them on,it looks like that might not even have been necessary.I think the rearend doesnt sit exactly in the middle so if you wanted to run 15x10 rims i think youd need different backspacing for eachside, but that would also depend on ride height because i heard the higher thecar, the more the rearend shifts to the passenger side, but yeah 15x10 are a LITTLE bit of a stretch but im pretty sure theyd fit, because it looks like theres an inch or more on eachside of the tire that you can add and not only that, but 275/60/15 tires have a verywide section width (i think thats what its called) so i BELIEVE (<--did i spell that right?) a little lower profile tire like 295/50/15 would fit even on a 15x8 rim and they probly wont balloon as much, even on a 15x10 rim. So yeah, the 275-60-15s fit easy on a 68 with 15x8 rims

SUGGESTION- type of wheel can be important on some cars, due to rotor clearance- might want to add mfg/type wheel, and if upgraded brakes exist, the type you swapped to.

heres mine:

(gotta confirm this later)

Car Year : 65
Car Model: Ford Galaxie 500 LTD (all stock- std small drums)

wheels: 1993-98 Grand Marquis (w/handling pkg)

note- getting rears under quarter is pretty tight- have to jack really high and tip it under, or remove shock. no clearance issues except @install

Rim Size :16x7
Rim Offset: 24mm
Tire Size:255/50/16

On the '68 Galaxies I've been doing some measuring lately and I believe a 15x10 would fit in the back, but the BS will have to be 4.75 or 5" so it doesn't stick out to far. And it might be able to still fit up behind the finder. Hopefully I will be able to confirm this in the next month or so. Also the panhard bar (I think that what it's called) makes the axel shift to the drivers side as the rear ride hieght goes up.

I dont know about the 68's but 15 X 10 will fit in the rear fenders of the 65's but you can not run a 295/50R15 and the total tire width is 12 1/4 inches since from fender lip (unrolled) to frame is only 12 3/4 inches. unless you are comfortable with running with only a 1/4" of room on each side if the tire. With a stock rearend the 5" back spacing would work just about perfect. The ones seen on my car have a 4" back spacing and is actually protruding past the inner fender lip. I am trying to borrow a pair of 15 X 10 with a 5" and 60's on them to see how much room I will have. The other set of rims that I have for it are rear 15X7 Torq Thrusts 3 1/2 back spacing anf front 14X7 Torq Trrusts 3 1/2 back spacing. but I would like to go with the 15X10 rear with the 5" back spacing with a 60 series tire if they will fit the way I want.

So a 5" backspace with a 0 offset in the rear is the answer?
On my 68, I have been thinking of going with a 17x9.5" - 17x10" in the rear and a 17x7 or 17x8" in the front.

I would personally take alot of measurements first and do the math before spending the money. If you can I would find a tuner shop (sorry for that one Guys) and you should be able to find a tire already mounted on the rims of the size that you want and get the total tire width and then calculate that with the numbers that you took from your car. That should help you out with your tire and rim choices.
