Gents,

Didn't know whether to put this thread in the Gal pages or Tech. But here goes.

I am going on a shopping spree on JEGS. I already have all the things I think I need. HOWEVER, I am super confused and I need your expertise. I hope you can help me. I initially was going to buy a crate engine, but after my CSM's mechanic told me not to, because my current rebuilt engine is in perfect mechanical condition (the last owner of the 69 GAL put in a fresh FE 390, I still have the old non-running FE 390, which he included when I purchased the car). To cut to the chase, below are the items that I am purchasing:

2x Performer RPM heads #60069
1x Performer RPM Camshaft Kit #7106
1xPerformer Carb, 750cfm #1407
1x Timing Chain Set #7808
It’s saying that I will need Valve Spring, Non-Rotator 1.460 OD, 1.820 spring height # 5767
1x Performer RPM FE Intake Manifold #7105
1x Intake Manifold Bolt Kit #5807
1x Intake Gasket (recommended JEGS) #555-210300
-but there’s also intake manifold gaskets #7224 by edelbrock.
1x Blue RTV 3oz tube #555-28030
1x head bolt kit #8557
1x Gold Throttle Lever Adapter (69 Gal Automatic) #1483
1x gasgacinch 4oz #9300
8x rc12yc race plug #192-49776
2x Edel sig valve covers # 4462
1x set valve cover gasket #555-210370
1x Rocker Shaft Stud kit for all edelbrock fe cylinder heads #6009
1x ultra torque assembly lube 1.69 oz tube #070-100-9909
1x set Edelbrock head gasket #7337
1x set Edelbrock exhaust gasket #7229
1x set long tube headers 2" diameter, 31" long, with 3-1/2" collector

But after reading instructions, for example, on the cyl heads, they are complete and have the edelbrock sure-seat valve springs #5792.
But when I see the instructions for the RPM camshaft #7106, it's saying to buy the #5706 sure seat valve springs, which isnt even on a catalog. So i got the #5767. Will this work?

Also with the RPM cylinder heads, it's asking for adjustable rocker arm assembly and pushrod compatible with adjustable rocker arm assembly 1.76:1 ratio. ford #b8az-6565-c and the B8AZ-6565-C pushrods.

IN OTHER WORDS...why can't I just buy the RPM kit, manifold, cylinder heads, carb, and headers...why, after reading each instruction it tells you, it's dyno matched with so and so product, yet, each individual product instruction tells you you need to buy extra parts/components/accessories if they're complete and direct bolt on. IM SUPER CONFUSED...

Also, I am purchasing SCAT-BASED Engine Kit - Ford 416FE Flat Top -4.0cc from Coast Hight.

Can you please help before I press the purchase button. I almost feel like just quitting on this because it's throwing me off in what I need exactly to make the kit complete.

Very respectfully,

Sam

What did the people from Jegs and from Edelbrock tell you? They should both have toll free tech lines, so go to the horses mouth and see if you get good answers starting at the front end. ;-)

One thing that jumped out at me was the header size...2"?...that is huge...will they even fit?

Generally, pushrods are ordered after the engine is set up because you won't know the exact dimensions til it's assembled. This is to ensure you have the proper "wipe" pattern on the valve tip. There are adjustable push rods made for this procedure. You also might wanna consider end stands for the rocker shaft depending on how high the valve spring rate is. BTW, valve springs are relatively inexpensive so don't fret if you can't use the ones that came with the heads...that's one reason lotsa guys order bare heads then mix and match the valve train components.

The BEST source of info on all of this is probably the FE forum, "FE and Going Broke's" formidable expertise notwithstanding.

You lost me @ Gents..
ASK FE goin broke...
good luck any O who..

Sam, not sure what more you want from an engine that is in perfect mechanical condition. Or are you asking someone to look up the numbers (Blue RTV 3oz tube #555-28030) and give you an analysis?

Agree with LaGal, only FEandGoingBroke could answer all your questions.

If you don't want to modify brand new parts to make them work correctly with non factory components, then you'll either need to call Edelbrock and ask them their recommendation on how to order them properly or call an FE specialist like Survival Motorsports and buy your stuff from them. They send you a complete bolt on kit. Or a turn key engine.

I would have expected your heads to have the 5767 springs installed. I think that is something you should verify with Edelbrock if you haven't already. I couldn't find a spec on the spring # your listed.

Since the heads are made for the 390, 427 and 428 you have to expect some changes depending on your particular engine. It looks like the pushrods they settled on were stock parts on the 427. You need adjustable rockers with guide plates for a performance cam so that is a normal difference.

The matching they are talking about is the flow and horsepower potential from the intake to the heads, carb and cam since Edelbrock makes all of the parts.
