Well the 302 is ready to drop in and someone asked if I used silicone on the head bolts.Am I supose to use silicone on the head bolts? Ive never had to use this on other makes of engines.

You need to use a sealant on the outer head bolts on both sides of the engine. They go into the coolant passages .

It depends what year block. Early blocks have blind holes that don't go into the water jacket like the newer roller blocks

Yep, my 67 289 needed sealer for the outer bolts. I used ARP Thread Sealer, second season and no probs so far.

the block is a 78. Damn this means I have to pull the rockerarms off again

Might be worth checking before you do, my 71 302 has blind holes, sealer not applied. The original factory bolts had no sealer on them either and I know it was original when I tore the motor down.

my 74 block has blind holes: no sealer needed. take 1 bolt out and check the bolt hole. see if it bottoms out with a pick. if u already have water in the motor, does it come out the hole?

No sealer on my 69 302 but sealer required on my sons 94 GT 5.0.
