Well, I did cam break-in in July, and I'm now driving the car to car shows. Even though I serviced it per your instructions and put in a pit pack to replace the bushings, it still gets stuck between gears as before. I adjusted each shifter rod per instructions. Any idea what is going on?
If the shifter went back together well and the rods are not hitting each other, I would suspect its an internal transmission problem. I would look specifically at the shift rods, detents, and springs to ensure they are in good serviceable condition. Maybe at the shift dogs that the levers bolt on too. Not a tough job but it requires some intricate disassembly that may be beyond the capabilities of a person not familiar with this transmission.
Great article! There are some youtube videos on this, but personally I find it easier to refer to a series of photos and instructions like this. I'm in the middle of rebuilding mine right now.
The only thing I would like to add is that for the various shims and levers, I went to Harbor Freight and bought a cheap electric engraver for $8. I used it to put a small number (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) at the top of each piece as I removed it from the stack, before dumping it in the bucket of parts cleaner. This will insure that I not only get them all back in the right order, but they will also be flipped the same way. Obviously the direction is important for the levers. Not sure for the shims, but this takes the guesswork out.
so I have been working on my 1965 Galaxie 500 2 door fastback that I just got running for the first time since 1990 the car originally came with a 352 4 barrel and an Mx transmission was told by the last owner that it was originally a c4 transmission but he said the motor started smoking so he...
I have a '89 F-250 the transmission has lost forward and reverse gears. I've removed the transmission and found the torque converter would not come all the way out. Any suggestions on cause or possible damage?
I'm new to the site and I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get a '65 Fairlane Sport Coupe 500 transmission crossmember. I've searched all over and can't seem to find one. Any help would be appreciated.
When I first sat down to put this info together my intent was to document the install of a T5 into my 1962 Ford Galaxie, but as the project unfolded I realized that much of what I was writing applied to installing a T5 into just about any classic Ford, especially some of the tips and tricks for...
