Is there a shorter filter that can be substituted for the FL1-A filter on a 302? I'm trying to fit it into a narrowed frame and the oil filter interferes with the steering gear.

Alternately, is there an adapter that can be used to point the filter downward?

Thanks

Get a napa gold number 21072, or a wix number 51072. If you want to double check the number look up the filter for a 95 ford f-150 with a 351windsor. It uses a shorter filter to clear the frame. I'm almost positive the 51072 or 21072 is the right number but if you want to double check look up that app.

I stopped by AutoZone and bought a PH-16 Fram filter. It is about 1/2 the length of the FL-1A filter. It fit the threads and sealed fine. It's a filter for a Chrysler product.

I sat the engine back into the frame and there's plenty of room.

I cut the stub off this evening and will start the graft onto the truck's frame in a couple of weeks. I can't get it done this weekend because I'm traveling for the company for the next two weeks. Yuk! I'll have to wait until I get back home.

Randall's answer with "FL-300" is the correct Motorcraft number for the short version of FL-1 A. Ford used it OE on the 94 - 95 Cobra that had the factory oil cooler with sandwich adapter at the filter. Also used on 92 - 94 Tempo 2.3 LOL.

cheers
