If you don't race your car, just take it to the track every now and then, and it runs 9's, do you have to have a special license to run your car? Or is that just for racing?

you'll get away with it once IF you don't tell them the cars that fast.
This won't work if your car is a blown dragster or FunnyCar.
They require the license whether you are a pro or once a year racer.

You will need a competition driver permit at 9.99 and under.

The tracks I race at always check and remember you if you dont have one and want to race that fast.

Here is a great place to get one.

Around here they make you take small runs with your ride to make sure that you can handle it without putting it in the grandstands. After acp. your application for your lisc. and your car passes tech for a 9.99 car, they start you with a burnout. Later you stage the car, then a 60 foot run, then 1/4 track, 1/2 track etc. until you have made a certain number of passes for their approval.
