speedo going backwards

Changed from a 3 speed toploader, to a 4 speed toploader (with the input in the correct side) and the speedo is going backwards. This has me baffled. Any ideas?.

Reverse cut speedo gears.

Which side of the car does the cable go in, driver or passenger side?
Drivers side both it's a 67 Galaxie, tranny is a 71 Torino. The gear in the tranny is green the one on the cable is white. Now this tranny was rebuilt and suppose to go in a Mustang, but obviously it didn't fit. So I'm guessing they put the wrong gear in it. Not sure why the one inside is green. I'm going to pull the cable out and see which way the teeth on it are slanted and double check the colour. Once I do that, I'll have a better idea what's going on. Now that being said, can I change the gear on the cable to match the slant on the internal one? Or do I have to change the one inside? And will the one inside the 3 speed fit in it?

Yep it has the wrong gear in it, turning the wrong way, it will take miles off your odometer though. :D

The driven gear has a slant to it. Look at the teeth close and find one that slants the opposite way.
Most were the same with left-output, but Galaxie, 1964 Fairlane, and Sunbeam Tiger were opposite-direction drive from what I've read. Speedo gear and driven gear must of course match. Random example image from automotorpad:

Yaa it appears it's for a Mustang, I'm hoping the one in the original 3 speed will work. Any one know for sure?
Does anyone know the rear-end ratio of a original 1964 Falcon 260cid three speed on the tree.

It's the right colour (yellow) and it's slanted the opposite way. Let you know in couple of weeks
