The original plastic handle for the hood latch broke several years ago on our 76 Cobra II and we never got around to replacing it. For about 8 years, I had a 5/8" box end wrench that I would slide over the broken end and pull the shaft on the latch to pop the hood. Then, I was looking around at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago and found a stainless steel tee handle drawer pull. The dash has brushed aluminum overlays, so I thought this would fit well with the interior and have a "billet" look. I removed the entire hood release cable, cut off the remaining plastic end, then TIG welded the new stainless tee handle on. Below is the finished product. I don't think this one will be breaking any time soon.
