I just replaced my starter on a 66 Mustang with a 302 and it gets stuck on and keeps spinning after the car starts sometimes. Is it the wrong tooth count or a bad starter?

When converting to a later-model PMGR starter, first be sure to verify correct wiring in order to avoid starter hanging (starter run-on or slow release after key release) before trying other solutions. See this thread with the diagram and Ford Racing warning: https://www.fordmuscleforums.com/all-ford-techboard/592122-anyone-know-what-noise.html#post2279298
