Hello,

I had a question, what is the stock compression ratio on a 1974 351w? I've heard 8:1, 8.5:1, 8.7:1. I've a book (rebuilding the small block fords), and it has it listed at 8:1, but have also been told the tables in that book are inaccurate. Thanks!

Most published compression ratios seem to be picked out of thin air, or at least not very accurate. Best to get a burrette, measure and calculate it yourself.

whatever they publish comp. ratio , its always lower .

to know the exact ratio , must be measured

You would find the correct assembly CR in the SPECIFICATIONS SECTION of the appropriate year OEM Shop Manual.

Of course, the CR can vary due to machining and assembly tolerances.
