So I'm not doing full on resto, but somewhat stock looking. I've seen the fan warning sticker above the radiator, the red bag on the pass, inner fender, etc. What's factory? Anybody got pics?

I like a little color, so the ignition is Accel, always like the yellow accents, especially on the blue motor. The sticker and bag look cool. Anything normally go on the driver's side?

Ignition box was mounted on the driver side in the 427 cars with the Transitorized Ignition. Other than that they are pretty plain. I've seen Autolite Sparkplug stickers on the firewall...

The hipo restorations I've seen have a few firewall stickers, including the Autolite Sparkplug sticker. I know you can get the fan guard sticker from Dearborn, or a complete engine decal kit from Greg Donahue.

In 63 the engines were black not blue. 352s had blue valve covers and air filter housing and 390s and 406s had gold valve covers, 390 and 406 with a 4 barrel had gold air filter housings. 406 was an open element. You could also get them all with a chrome dress up kit.

If you're still seeking the decal info, there are quite a few online suppliers for both the bag and repop decals. (I'd avoid n-o-s ones because by now they are verry dried out and for the decals, both dried out & won't stick well). For seeing pics and examples, if you enjoy Google (or Bing), simply enter variations of "1963 Ford Galaxie ___", then click on "images".... better have some time to view the results ;). The "___" area can be filled in with whatever you're looking for, ie; "engine bay", ""engine" etc ....and you'll get more specific results. Since reference material is at times wrong, and since you're not looking for Concours-perfect anyways, here you at least get a feel for what others are doing.

Here is just a sampling of links for w/w bags and decals:

Enjoy :) Norm

I've seen the water bag on the fender in blue, red, and 2 different shapes. Which one is right? Where do I get the fan decal, and autolite? Pics?

Thanks!

Lookin' spiffy ! I'd like to be at that point myself, ahhh, lol.

So may I ask where you got your m/c and booster setup at? Keep up the great work, and the pics. :)

Norm
Norm i bought the car with this already installed. I just took it off sprayed it and reinstalled. I think it came from dearborn ripoffs i mean classics.

I tell you, you dont realize how much crap is under the hood when it comes time to disassemble and clean this crap!!

Thanks for the m/c info, I like yours b/c it uses a more correct style m/c. How do the brakes feel with it? I realize you don't have a "before" feel to compare to, lol. Yea, uh-huh on that last part about dearborn, teehee.

I hear your pain about that firewall, etc .... I have gone out there, stared closely at mine, visualizing motor out and my old butt down in the hole, cleaning, scrubbing, poking, taping off stuff, etc, to maybe go with a body-color firewall, and then after everything "pre-aches" just from me staring at it and wondering all this...... I shut the hood, go in the house and pout ..err, think on it, lol.

We may actually get our first 60 by Friday, and they even went so far as to say maybe 70 by Sunday. We may still have ice on all the lakes while folks start the fishing opener here --that's a wild visual, lol

Anyways ..... hey, thanks and looking forward to reading some more of your Galaxie Escapades....while my baby waits for spring, and my escapades can start!

Hi Everyone,
Going by the Lid, that MC, looks like a 67+ Mustang drum / drum MC, I have been researching this stuff myself and i am going to go with that MC myself for my 63.5 Galaxie, Although i'm using a manual MC,

I found it on ebay from a Dan Chockley, i think that's how you spell his name, He calls himself Chocostang, He specialises in Mustang brakes, BUT was right up with all Ford brakes and knows heaps about Galaxies as well and knows what will go with what, I actually rang him in Illinois from Australia, he was really Knowledgable and helpful and interesting to talk to,

Hope this helps, larry

So my pass fender has a couple holes where I'm guessing the water bag goes, but they appear much closer together than the mounts on the bags I've seen. Anyone have a closer pic of the bag, and a measurement for the mounting holes? Are they just held on with screws?

Thanks! This thread is really helping with ideas!

I finally decided to redo the firewall on mine ...whilst I was already in the 'neighborhood' repairing cracked, dried out seam sealer plus repainting the upper and lower cowl area. After checking out lots of firewall pics, I decided to go with body color to help let the motor have a bit of contrast. I still have decals on order, but wanted to post a progress pic.....

Good post. I forget about decals. Here is my refreshed engine bay minus decals.

Good choice on the under hood cowel color selection.

I thought about going black on my 64 Galaxie, but decided to go with the body color, Pagoda Green.

(It had been a very sloppy semi gloss black spray job that I did many years ago.)

Thanks for the feedback Pat, Rag, Jerry..... :)

Here's an updated pic with Drake firewall decals mounted. Hey, they aren't in their OFFicial locations, but rather, where I like them (and yea, they do cover 'blemishes' well, hehe). I also plumbed and installed a pair of jy 'pissers' ...all of that was missing when I got the car. So now thaaaat is all done, ahh! It's coming along, you know how that goes, lol.

Norm that looks excellent! Really woke things up in there. You know my deal, lookin like it would of back in da day.
