I just had my MSD outfit that I purchased through Summit fail to arrive (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia). Summit informed me that UPS declared my order officially lost and that they (Summit) will either refund me or re-ship the order.
QUEST....1..Is this common as I definitely plan to make further purchases and am concerned for my future orders??
2..I do have a buddy in Halethorpe, Maryland (21227), would it be better for me to have Summit ship it to him and have him USPS (not UPS) or would the risk be the same??
I have mailed Summit with the same enquiry but would just like some more opinion/advice etc.
THANX...ROB.

Thats right...Riyadh....There was no indication that Saudi would be an issue when I placed the order and when I tracked it on UPS website it showed that it was cleared by customs & en-route for delivery.....just not to me I guess.

I haven't had anything lost in shipping yet (from Summit or UPS)... but I'm sure it happens sometimes. Truck gets wrecked/stolen, plane crashes, or it just gets stuck under a pile of boxes in a warehouse somewhere and sits there for months.

I had the same issues with UPS a while back. They lost not one, not 2, but 3 tires...and all of them were to go on my Maverick (33x14.5-15's). I needed them for a weekend race. I never got any of them. UPS states that when a case is filed, it takes between 7-14 days to resolve it. That means that if Summit can't produce another MSD, you're probalby SOL....

In my case, I had a back up car. But, luckily it rained that weekend and we didn't race anyway. Talk about blessings from Mother Nature! I talked to a representative at summit and we worked together to get it resolved. I wasn't unhappy, just a little peeved at UPS....I mean come on, how do you lose a 33x14.5 rear slick? In the end, Summit sent me another tire...UPS lost it, then they sent me the LAST one they had in stock and I received it, the day before the next race (which was 2 weeks after the rain out). The very next Monday...I received 2 tires via UPS. Called Summit and they had them returned at their expense.

I suggest a call to the Summit customer service line. They'll usually go out of their way to help you...or...at least they did for me.

Thanx guys....FE I'm not military, someone else also advised me to have it shipped to a military adress here in Saudi and I do have a few U.S military buddies here but does it mean that the packages does not get opened/scanned and guarenteed delivered to the recipient if the adress is military? Summit have been very helpful, they told me it would take 7 to 10 days for UPS to respond to their official trace enquiry and they have kept me posted so I appreciate that. I am leaving Saudi (for Cape Town, South Africa) in Dec so I just wanna take advantage of the exchange rate whilst I'm here and acquire as much as I can then just ship everything home when I leave here, I know you probably thinking why I don't ship direct to South Africa but it's just that wifey would not know if the correct parts were delivered and I'd be so [email protected]#$d if I arrive a couple of months later all psyched up to start assembling & my parts are not what I ordered, so I don't mind having them shipped here first and then when I leave.. ship again....Thanx for listening guys and please elaborate on the military adress thingy coz I have contacts there.

While I was in the military I had several Summit orders shipped overseas. I never had any problems, with the exception of taking just a little longer to arrive.

I had Summit sent me an Edelbrock spring kit, it was a 9x2x2" box that they packed in a bigger box over a foot square with two wee plastic air bags to keep it company!
I got it fast to New Zealand but the Valve spring kit had been thrown around and popped open with dozens of wee keepers everywhere........
I found the last wee keeper under the bottom flap on its way out. I let Summit know but never heard back. I remember reading on another forum of a mail order company folding a head gasket set too!

I never had any problems either getting Summit by USPS overseas EXCEPT it usually took 4-6 weeks. Not Summit's fault, just the screwy post office system. Occasionally I would recieive packages in as little as 2 weeks.

I like them as a company (always been helpful), but I don't always agree with their packing methods. Lately they put a starter on top of some intake gaskets. All wiggled around enough for the starter to exit its box and crush the gasket. They did replace the gasket and refund the shipping to have the old one returned.

I always have problems with UPS. They can never find my house and they dont try to contact me about it. It just sits at their warehouse doing nothing. I also constantly have late shipments. I try not to use UPS if at all possbile. They also dont deliver on the weekends!

Every once in awhile UPS delivers my stuff to a house down the street, my house number is 2589 and they deliver to 2598. Not as bad as the Post Office, though. They deliver my mail to 2589 alright, but on the wrong street!

Since you're not there permanently don't use the buddy system... The Customs people take their SWEET DAMN TIME when dealing with APO/FPO mail, because they know it's going to the troops adn or military, and the incoming country get's kind of slow when it comes to the Customs dept.

I suggest that you stay with UPS... They did offer a refund and replacement! That's good!

Thanx so much guys...I guess I'm just gonna have Summit ship my future purchases to my buddy in Harlethorpe, Maryland and then he can USPS it to me and just hope for the best even though it probably take a while longer as long as it arrives here....

Yep, I remember that thread. It was also Summit that did that.
