when i had my supercharger intalled on my '05 gt i was told that i now must use synthetic oil and still maintain the 3000 mi interval between oil changes. i don't mind the extra cost if it's necessary........anybody out there know about this. any input greatly appreciated

Synthetic motor oil will tolerate the higher bearing loads that result from more power and synthetic motor oil flat out makes stuff last a long time. I use it in EVERYTHING including my lawnmower.

Most synthetics advertise extended change intervals....15K-25K miles!!

I'm not certain I'd go that far but I change mine at 5K miles (easy to remember) and have done it for years.

I use Mobil I 5W30 in my blower application and so far all is well. Ford recommends 5W20 Motorcraft due to tight bearing tolerances on the Intech 32 valve motor and some of the folks with Marauders like mine have tried heavier weights with poor results....increased heat and very high oil pressure!!

BTW, I have 18K miles on the blower installation and it still does fine with the lighter oil.

If you've ever seen the little tiny oil passages that feed the 4.6/5.4 OHC engines....you'll want to use the lightest oil possible. Those little oil feeds are a mile long and quite small compared to what feeds a traditional pushrod V8. It takes a while for pressure to actually reach the cams. I can see synthetic doing a little better job especially in colder weather. It moves quicker usually.

The short interval is most likely due to your blowers warranty being voided due to extending oil changes beyond 3000 miles.

My buddy just ate a supercharger on an 05 and he only has had it on there for a year (actually less, 7 months), my guess is they build up some heat internally and its best to heed their warnings, although being a former (and somewhat current) turbo guy, I'd stretch it to 5000 without thinking twice, probably not more though.

I must have missed the fact that some centrifugal SC's use engine oil for lubrication.....Sorry!! Probably best to do what they recommend!!

My ProCharger uses 6 oz of "Zero" weight aircraft synthetic and they recommend changing it at 500 miles and then every 6K miles....I do both the engine and SC'er at 5K miles!!

I think PC intends for the blower oil to be changed every other 3K mile oil change??
