I use a Snap On "dial back" I've had for thirty years. Works on my 6 and 7 series boxes.

I like the Bosch / Actron dial-back timing lights. Pickup locally at auto parts store or score cheap on ebay. Don't be tempted to not get a dial-back, unless you want both like myself. :\

If they act flaky, the issue is likely because you are either supposed to hold the button down, or NOT hold the button down. Don't recall which, but it has tripped me up a time or two now.

They work great with my 6AL and 6M-2L.

I bought the MSD one as I needed a new one anyway , but never had any issues with a cheap dial back type
