I recently put a 270h magnum cam in my 72 maverick 302. after everything is done and it's time to set the timing, the only wat it runs right is when its advanced to 18 degrees. Am I doing something wrong? any feeback will be greatly appreciated.

I run 18 degrees of initial timing, nothing wrong with that and the only reason I do is because my engine doesn't run as well at the stock setting 6btdc.

I don't run a vacuum advance either so that will have an effect on your idle. what you want to be worried about is the total timing and the advance rate. I have all 38 degrees in by 2500.

What kind of distributor are you running.

My motor like lots of advance at idle, so I hooked up the vacuume advance to a constant sorce so I could lower the initial advance for easear starting.
