I'm looking into putting some nicer wheels on my 67 mustang. I have the stock 14X6 steel rims on it now. I'm finding out that a lot of wheel manufactuers don't like making 14 inch wheels. I'm looking at the edlebrock 426 wheels. My question is will a 15 inch wheel fit without being to close to the wheel well or making my car look like I lowered it. I really don't want to make my mustang look like I lowered it.

thanks

Early mustangs can tolerate an 8 inch wide wheel in the rear as long it has a 4.5 inch backspace. Your tire size will have to be no more than 245/50 and you still may have to roll the fender lip. The front can manage 7" inchers, though I have heard of some guys running 8's with minor rubbing. Again, your backspace is critical:4.5 inches. The fronts can handle 225/50's with no problem.

65-66 mustangs are limited to a 15x7 wheel with a 4.5" backspace in the stock rear wheel well. A 235/60/15 will fit no problem, as long as the rear axle is centered in the body properly.

67-68's can go a little larger. I would think a 15x8 with a 4.5" backspace would fit on a 67-68. I'm not sure about tire size, but it should fit more rubber than the 65-66. You're definitely not limited to a 50 series tire. Those are awfully short.

Good Luck!

Well mine is not a 67, but I run a 16X8 Vintage 45 on all 4 corners, had some rubbing in front, but that was pretty much eliminated when I went to aluminum heads, and it has been lowered 2" all the way around.

I have ran 15x8 4.5 backspacing with 265/50/15 on it and only had a little scrubbing and run 28x9 m/t slicks for the track , I run 5 leaf rear springs though but a 245 or 255 would probably be no problem at all you just have to watch the section width on the tires , my slicks are at 10.8 inch and have about 1/2 inch clearance between the tire and leaf spring everthing else is ok
Oh and mine is a 65 so a 67 has more rome .
