i was told that when i get my car back (347 stroker... should be around 300hp) i will more than likely "blow" my stock 8inch rearend...

what EXACTLY will happen? will it just start making a bunch of noise? will the pumpkin actually shatter on me?!?1

just wanna know what to look for

I think you mean PornDogCoupe or ChickenSoupeCoupe or maybe just plane 68 Falcon. 300HP and 8" with automatic? It won't even know there's an engine in the car. 500HP and it might start to complain a little bit if it gets serious traction.

I blew up my 8" behind my moderately hopped-up

!. The pinion gear just climbed right up the ring gear and took the pinion support with it. I would imagine with an aftermarket pinion support this wouldn't have happened, but I went ahead and swapped for a 9". Best decision I've made in a while.

P.S. How are you getting only 300hp out of a 347???

stock 74 heads.... performer intake and a 600cfm carb....

i guess you could factor in the fact that i live in denver (lousy elevation) and it makes sesne to me???

i do plan on upgrading the heads (afr's most likely) as well as the intake carb combo.. and when i do that i will more than likely pick a new cam for the combo as well... i know you guyz will help me on that

it's not horsepower, torque or weight that kills rear ends. It's traction! We ran 8" rears for years, no problems until we went to slicks--still ran fine with low 1.5 60' times in a 2500 lb car. It finally broke a couple weeks ago, the pinion lost it's teeth. I put a 9" in mine a 1 1/2 years ago, but have yet to try the 'brake. I'm afraid it'll probably scatter the stock rear, so we'll wait til next year when I upgrade. Dad's rebuilt 8" is still holding up fine...knock on wood
