I just picked up an early Falcon toploader (Narrow Pattern Maincase) and it is painted Tan (palamino) did ford paint their tranny's this color???

I am unaware of them painting the trans ANY color.... auto/std have all been bare that i have seen, unless someone else painted it when it was out...

Proper would be plain cast iron, although many of us clean them up and then paint them to prevent rust. Black or Ford blue are the most common colors I've seen used.

I like the cast iron color, but not rust, so I blow a can of "cast iron" color engine paint on them as it resists oils and is easy to clean. Several companies make it like VHT and Duplicolor. Along the same vein, rear axle center sections on 8" and 9" axles were painted red oxide primer and left that way. I have no idea why.
