A friend and I started a project rebuilding a 1962 Mercury Monterey. We are only missing a few parts including the torque converter (Single stage torque converter with 3 speed fully automatic planetary gear train). We have completed the basic engine rebuild. We are almost ready to drop the engine back in. But, we have not been able to find a torque converter. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement converter for the 1962 Mercury Monterey (aftermarket or other sixties Ford)? Thank you in advance.

Below is a link to the specs

You have either a 3spd Ford-O-Matic or the Cast Iron Cruise-O-Matic.
You need to find out which transmission you have and then order a converter for the correct transmission.
If you have an FE (352 - 390) engine it might be easier to get a later model C6 to bolt up. The Ford-O-Matic is no loner serviced and parts would be an issue - including the converter. The Cast Iron cruise-O-Matic is the grandad of the FMX so that is a second posibility but there is little after-market stuff available for the FMX/Cast iron Cruise-O-Matic. The C6 has a lot of support and is capable of handling far more power than the FMX.
