I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but could somebody explain to me how a torque converter works? And is it called a stall converter or a torque converter, is there a difference or is it preference?

KB, torque converters are a combination of simple concept and complicated dynamics. I would suggest you read a few on-line references like "How it works" and FAQs from the TC companies, then come back to this thread and ask specific questions to get your full understanding. Sound good?

PS: Not a stupid question at all. TCs are fascinating and critical your performance. You should have an understanding of them and how they impact your ride.
