My 71 Mach was a bad boy today. Had to tow it home.
The tranny won't come out of park. You can move the shifter, watch it move on the tranny, and the car won't go into gear. All linkage appears to be functional on the exterior. Is there a connector rod or shaft that can break or slip inside of the trans housing that will keep the car from shifting?
302 w/C4. The first indication was the car didn't go into park (shifter did-tranny didn't), after three trys the tranny did shift into park with a slight click. It never came out of park again. Got ideas? I will be climbing under tomorrow for a better look.

Thanks,
chris

if the lever is moving on the outside, you'll have to pull the pan to check inside. I'd be willing to bed that the nut that holds the internal shift linkage onto the shaft either came off and allowed the linkage to come off the shaft, or the main shift valve came loose.
