My dads '67 stang, stock 289/C4, has a funny 2-3 shift. It takes longer than it should and it sounds like the motor revs a little bit between the gears (no tach). What is it? Just slipping? How do I fix it?

Walt, that is a fairly common prob with a lot of c4's.It's a little flare that happens at light throttle and goes away with more acceleration. It is the band releasing quicker than the hi/rev clutch is applying.I have found it happens more with the 'A' servo though it could also be wear in the hi/rev clutch

Sorry to say this, but it only gets worse. I kept driving my C4, until it wouldn't shift from second until I drove the car for about 10 minutes, and I also had no reverse for that same time. Replaced it with a T5.

Greg, it doesnt go away with harder acceleration. Its sounds like your powershifting on the 2-3.

Try adjusting the 2nd gear band to about 1 1/2 turns. If band is loose 2-3 shift will get slow and that will certainly kill direct clutch.
If adjustment does not work, order that rebuild kit.
