....what is it...????

...this was just one of the parts in the bed of my '56 F100 Pickup that was
part of the deal...the previous owner "thought" it might be a C4 from a '70
F100 Pickup ...

Some #'s above the linkage... C5AP-7006-B....I forgot to get the date
code...I'll get it tomorrow...err...I mean later today...

The picture below shows casting #'s C4A9-7D027-B

...and on the tail section...is cast a verticle number; C4AP-7A040-CBK

...kinda tuff to see....but after the FoMoCo script oval there is what looks
like a "brand-name" cast in to the case...Sheffield...BIG "S"...and the rest
of the name is surrounded in a sort of left-facing horseshoe-thing

......followed by the number "1"...WTF....????

Looks like some kinda trademark...wierd...especially on a Ford part....

Anybody ever seen this before?

No vent on the tail housing - vent at the servo cover means it is 1969 or earlier. The "Z" servo tells me that it is likely not for a V8 -probably a 4 or 6 cylinger C4. Just above the linkage there are two circles cast into the case. The one on the right (toward the back of the transmission) will have two numbers cast inside the circle. That will be the month and year of assembly.
I don't see the metal ID tag on the servo so it has been rebuilt and the bell housing is for the small block V8 (any bell for the case fill will bolt on).

Actually, Gregaust and others know at least as much about the C4s as I do. I might be the old man of the crowd but I think others can do as much with the C4 as I.
