With severe valve float you will hear the valves 'slamming' and feel the engine loose power. A lot of power. If the engine pulls hard all the way until the valves starts floating, then your valve springs are not stiff enough. If your engine have passed peak power and you drive it into valve float, get a lower rev limiter.

BTW, don't mix up valve float and 'running out of breath'.

I've only actually heard the slamming once when I got into valve float, but I've floated em several times. With the current setup they float at exactly 63 mph in 1st gear. (no tach) Engine is still pullin fairly decent, but right there it just falls on its face. Not plannin on any upgrades, just gonna rebuild, or replace. Still cant shake the thought of what my spare 460 would do in that car...
