Can any of you folks that have run the
FRPP E303 cam tell me what valve springs
you used? I am putting together a '89
302 block with '90 E7TE heads (ported with
larger valves) and am down to assembling
the heads. A tec article on this web site
says that the E303 cam is the same as the
Crane 2040. I went to the Crane web site to
get their valve spring recommendations and
they want you to use springs that require
seat machining. Sure would like to avoid
that. Anybody running stock springs with the
E303 cam? Any advice will be appreciated.

Seems a little sleezy to respond to your own
post just to get it back on the board, but what the heck! Anybody got any info on valve
springs for E7TE heads that work with an E303 cam?

Crane has a excellent set of springs that comes with special keepers that will allow you to use your stock rocker arms. Your local speed shop should be able to supply them. I ran the E303 in my street/strip car with a otherwise stock '89 5.0L motor and heads. I found that shifting the car at 5200 Rpm with the E303 cam worked out best.. Car ran a best of 11.92 in 90 degree Florida weather. We tried shifting the car all the way up to 6200 but our best results were at 5200. If your stock springs are in good shape you can use them with satisfactory results....Tonye

I think I stumbled accross the Crane springs
you are talking about. They are listed in the JEGS catalog. It lists them as springs,
retainers and keepers for '86 to 91' 302
HO motors, no machining required. JEGS had them back ordered, Crane says they are out of keepers but Summit had the whole set.
$113 for the set plus shipping. If you buy
the springs, retainers and keepers as seperate part numbers it runs about $170.
I ordered them from Summit this afternoon.
Maybe I'll get this baby running before it starts snowing up here again!

Tonye...thats one helluva fine ET with stock
E7TE heads. What axle ratio and tranny are you using? The 'cam shootout' article showed
the HP peak at 5500 with the E303 cam. They
were using Rousch heads I think, or maybe
Windsor Jr's. They weren't stock heads anyway.

Thanks for the web addresses guys.

One more thing...the 'cam shootout' article
was on Jason.Fletcher.net, not here as I stated before.

Oh! Serious drag car I see. Mine is
a street machine with 3.47 gears and
a T5. Don't really know what it would do in a quarter.
