I learned a valuable lesson this weekend, on my 351 windsor.
Apparently Ford did some major changes on the depth of their water pumps, and pulleys "offsets" after 1969.
My 68 Torino had power steering, and air, so it had a 4 bolt dampener on it when I bought it. Little did I know it had a 1972 engine. Apparently before 1969 it would have been a 3 bolt dampener if my research is correct.
I just bought a rebuilt 1971 engine from a local shop "but" it has truck parts on it and that throws a monkey wrench into things as well. I have both 3 bolt and 4 bolt dampeners, and right and let outlet water pumps and several pulleys. I would be good to go if I put the original stuff back on it but I am going to a passenger side outlet for my water pump (factory style) and that is the problem.
I was putting it back together an adding the accessories to it only to find out that the fan pulley does not line up with the crank pulley and so on.
Now I am faced with more research and measuring. Some of the aftermarket sites help because they give you the little tidbits of when the years are changing. I have also found sites like fortification, and mustagTek.
I may be faced with paying March $250 for a matched set in order to get this done, not sure yet.
