strip/street.....i wouldn't go with 4.86's....4.56 would be the highest gear I would use, but my thoughts are the 4.30's for good street and strip performance....get some large/tall tires for street and some short slicks for the strip...
most hipo ford's came with either 3.91's or 4.30's in the 60's and 70's....
I would use an RPM calculator to figure what your rpm would be different speeds. That way you can figure what R's you would be turning cruising around town. You can also figure your approximate RPM going through the traps at the track.
i recently installed 4.11 gears instead of 3.00 (running a 351C with 4speed toploader and 295/50/15 rear), and sure, i dont have any problems burning tires, but it's not so much fun going 60mph and reving 3200rpm .. lots of noise ..
and since i have a welded dif it isn't hard to do donuts either .. hehe it yust spins round and round ...
