i have a 69 cougar with a 351w its the original motor, and i wanted to know what the deck height is for it and also will the super victor work on this block because it says it is for the 9.500, let me know thanks a lot
The earliest ones (69-70) have a 9.48" deck height, which is a little shorter than the later ones. The later ones are 9.5" There's 0.020" difference.
Most pistons are made to work with either block, and will be pretty far down in the hole on newer blocks. A buddy built a 427 stroker out of a 79' block and the pistons were 0.030" below deck at TDC. We took the block to the machine shop to have 0.030" cut off.
Mike's numbers are all right on. As for the Victor intake, the .020" different won't be enough to matter.
On the deck height, my experience with a 393 and KB pistons verified what KB says about their 351W products; they are designed for the 9.500" deck and will be above deck on the 9.480". We shaved the quenches on the pistons .015" to achieve zero deck.
