I got the cans of glyptal I ordered. I already did the lifter valley and it turned out well.

the plan is to also do the area behind the timing chain. Is that it? or should I paint up above the crank area and inside the motor where ever there is rough casting? I have enough of it but I don't know what the standard procedure is for using this stuff.

Also, the front oil plugs were not tapped, but for some reason the back plugs were, so as of right now they have regular plugs in them. Is it a good idea to JB weld over these plugs for extra insurance? I think I remember reading that here somewhere.

JB Weld over the top of a push in plug won't do any good.

I like to Glyptal the valley area, behind the timing cover, and above the crank area. I use the Glyptal that comes in the can that you can brush on rather than spray on. As far as the plugs go, you can get a small chisel and "stake" the plugs in place so that they won't move.

if you wanted you could get a 1/4 npt tap and tap the ports , then put a allen plug in there. Never come out.
Be VERY CAREFULL to not tap too deep! if you do then the plug wont tighten up till it plugs up the #1 cam bearing.( its very close ) Just tap a little, check it ,tap another turn check it, etc. You dont have to enlarge the hole, as is its a bit big already but it works.
Good luckI
