I WORK FOR A INSURANCE CO. AND ANY OF THE MAJOR COMPANIES ARE DECENT. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO INSURE A COLLECTOR CAR "1965 MUSTANG GT K CODE OR RARE BIG BLOCK CAR" BEST THING TO DO IS GET IT APPRAISED BY A REPUTABLE APPRAISER AND TALK WITH LOCAL INSURANCE AGENT. THE COMPANY I WORK FOR WON'T DO A STRAIGHT STATED VALUE POLICY, BUT WILL WRITE A POLICY THAT YOU SET THE LIMIT ON BASED ON CONDITION OF CAR.
IN OTHER WORDS DON'T HAVE A $900.00 BEATER MUSTANG INSURED FOR $30.000.00 DOLLARS AND EXPECT TO GET PAID THAT BASED ON WHAT YOUR FUTURE PLANS WERE, PAYMENT WILL BE BASED ON INSPECTION OF CAR AT TIME OF CLAIM.
BUT!!! LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
PREVIOUS POST HAD EXTREMELY GOOD PRICE, BUT WHAT TYPE OF LIMITATIONS ARE ON POLICY? IS IT FULL COVERAGE? LIABILITY ONLY? DOES POLICY HAVE COMPREHESIVE COVERAGE FOR VANDALISM, THEFT, ACTS OF NATURE (ASK ANY FLOOD, TORNADO, OR HURRICANE VICTIM!!!) CANE HE ONLY PUT 5,000 MILES A YEAR ON VEHICLE OR BE IN VIOLATION OF POLICY GUIDLINES.
BOTTOM LINE FIGURE OUT WHAT TYPE OF COVERAGE YOU REALLY NEED AND SIT DOWN FACE TO FACE WITH A AGENT AND ASK WHAT HE HAS TO OFFER AND HOW MUCH
GOOD LUCK.

The other day I received my new registration for my Mach1. I found out that I haven't had insurance on my Mach for almost five years (WOW). I am so lucky nothing happened. To make a long story short, Condon and Skelly Ins. Agency lost my policy when St Paul Mercury was sold to Travelers (I think). They never notified me. My car wasn't used for a few years very much due to the work I was doing on it so I never noticed that I didn't get a bill. I would never again get collector car insurance from Condon and Skelly because of this and their coverage. My insurance agent got me hooked up with Hagerty Insurance Agency Inc. 800-747-5348. Unlike many other ins. companies, Hagerty will pay the exact amount that I have my car insured for if the car is totaled. Hagertly is very easy to work with, very helpful and friendly. I am very happy to have ins. with them. I know myself and the car are properly covered. I strongly recommend Hagertly Ins Agency. for any collector car. They are also reasonable for the coverage you get.

The coverage I have is full coverage including theft, vandalism, no deductible. I do have 5,000 year mileage but I live in the northeast so don't drive from about oct thru April. I only average 3,000 miles a year so this is no problem. I had Haggerty last year and they were good as well, AC was able to cover me for about $30 less so I figured what the heck. With an agreed value, if my vehicle is totaled, AC will pay me what that agreed value is.

I use American Classic now because Condon & Skelly would have you re-apply every year. Now they didn't actually make you re-apply, it was just that the renewal was the same form you filled out when you first apply. I asked them why they just don't send out a renewal notice with the fee for the next year and they said this is the way they do it. Not with me!

Later!

I have Grundy Ins. on my car. Cost $165.00 per year for $20,000.00 agreed value. This is for total coverage including liability, collision, fire & theft, and comprehensive.

I haven"t used it so I don't know how they are, but they send and expiration soon notice, and I send a check to renew it.

A friend has the same ins. and his car was hit. The 58 Chev. is now in the best body shop in this area. It will soon be back on the road, and Grundy is paying everything for the repair.

usaa is good for those who are in or have a family member in the armed forces. my explorer just got vandelized and robbed the other night. (again) windows smashed, stolen items and a nice screwdriver gouge down the passengers side. I have both renters insurance and auto so everything was covered less the $500 deductable. usaa is going to fix everything mon and already sent a check out to cover the stolen items. I'm not so pissed now and look forward to buying some new cd's except this time I'm not leaving them in the car.

be sure and get liability and comprehensive coverage.

Hagerty "Stated Value" policy, here, too. Think mine is $342/yr for full coverage on $18K w/ increased liability and med pay limits ($300K), based on the policy values we have on our home and daily drivers through our other agent.

We wanted higher liability and med-pay limits because we had firsthand experience, about four years ago, when our middle son was nearly killed in an accident (no fault of his own) and racked up a $280K medical bill. Our medical insurance duked it out with the "at-fault" driver's insurance and, when it was all said and done, our out-of-pocket expense was actually quite minimal... but still, if the tables had been turned, if you don't have enough coverage... they're gonna get their money out of you one way or the other. Better to have a little higher premium than risk your home. I know that may sound a little extreme or overboard to some, but guys, there's a reason they call them "accidents".

Not an insurance agent,... just a little ol' plumber who's been around the block a few times.
