Has anybody used the TRW Forged 2482 .030 Pistons for a 393W stroker build?? I am interested in building a 393 on a very tight budget for my 72 Grabber. I have a 1975 351 block laying around that is .030 over, good stock rods, good ported 351 DO heads, stock 1.84 valves. The reason I am asking about the pistons, is because i am running a 302 in the maverick, and it has the TRW pistons. If I can use them, what compression ratio would I get with these 60cc heads? If I can get away with this, all I would need to buy is the Stroker 3.85" crank, new piston rings and a gasket set. I have seen a cast Eagle available for around $250 on ebay. Glad I found this place the other day, have really enjoyed absorbing the knowledge and opinions of most of you.

I'm using the trw L2482s in my 393. They have been fly cut to clear the 2.02 valves in the RPM heads im running.

I think the compression is in the 11-11 1/2 range depending on your dech height.

I don't recomend stock rods. I had one break at 6400 in the first stroker I built. It cost me 4 times as much to fix it as a decent set of rods costs.
I am using the Eagle SIR rods now.

Thanks for the reply... Did you have any clearance problems at all, or was it straight forward install with those pistons. No stock rods? I know its good insurance, but you don't think they would be ok in a street engine rarely revved above 6000rpm's? If I don't use the rods I might as well buy a kit I guess, but was trying to do the el cheapo deal. What do you think about this kit on ebay?... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SB-FORD-351-W-393-EAGLE-STROKER-CRANK-RODS-PISTONS-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33616QQitemZ8063487547QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I don't know much about the stroker kits other than what I have read on here. This seems to be one of the cheapest crank/rods/piston deals I can find on the internet. Seems to be all name brand products. Anybody have an opinion.

They wouldn't work in my 393...ended up buying a set of SRP flat tops, no flycutting necessary.

If I had to do it again, I'd look real hard at Mahle. Good stuff...great price and they come WITH rings.

The TRWs fit fine without any clearance problems.

As for the Speedpros in the kit-- The skirts are kinda wide, I installed a set in my friends Maverick motor(398 ) and the skirts had to be clearance a small amount. Its not a big deal.

I hear what your sayin about trying to do it cheap and keep the rpms down to keep it alive. That was my original intentions too, but I couldnt resist pushing it a little farther to get that faster time slip
