Get under the dash and take a look at the IGN switch.... Is everything hooked up? No cut wires?
The N~S switch is an easy one... Put it in Neutral and see if it will crank.
I would also double check the wiring to the starter and be sure everything is going to the correct points.

Sheesh.
Use a zip tie to secure the saftey switch to the lever. Works like a charm. I just did this last weekend when I was tired of using the push button start on ours. Come to think of it, I can remove the push button now!
