1963 TBird brake booster question.

Hello....... looking for direction. I need to replace brake booster on my 63 Thunderbird. A rebuild will cost $400 plus shipping my old core to the seller. However I see a replacement aftermarket booster for $250 on E-bay. no core needed. I am not concerned about an original look so are the new aftermarket boosters the way to go ??
THANKS in advance.

Re: 1963 TBird brake booster question.

A TuffStuff 2131 booster/ MC combo will work with some modifications. $173 at Summit. You want a 1" bore master. See the attached pictures for reference.

B0: factory booster with dual master retrofit. The Tuff Stuff is about 1/2" shorter than this.
B1: Measuring the old booster.
B2: Trimming the new one, blue tape as a guide.
B3: Using a heim joint to adapt the booster to my factory brake pedal.
B4: Enlarge the holes in the factory bracket to fit the bolt pattern on the new booster.
B5: Modifying the factory brace to fit around the longer dual master.

On the upside: I sold my old booster on ebay for more than the cost of the new one.

Yadkin -- Tuff Stuff says they have no bolt on booster. I understand that you "made it work" but I just don't want to get in to all that.

Re: 1963 TBird brake booster question.

It's your car. The modifications took me a couple of hours, and gave me the clearance that I needed for my vintage Offenhauser valve covers.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/351729029247?

This appears to be the best deal yet. Low shipping costs and I don't have to return my core.
Anyone ever used one of these?

Re: 1963 TBird brake booster question.

That certainly looks "plug and play". I'm concerned about the overall length though. Contact with the diagonal brace may be a problem. Maybe the seller can send you a dimensional drawing.

Re: 1963 TBird brake booster question.

Was hoping I'd get some input from someone that had used the above E-Bay item?
Not many people on the forums these days.
