changing oil pan

Since I am mechanically inept, I would have to get a local oil changing place (I trust everyone there, known them for years) to change my oil pan.

Today they said they couldn't do it without raising the engine couple inches. I thought it can just slide out because the crossmember is well below the pan.

Any ideas?

Yep only way to do it. That might not be enough room to get it out.

You can actually remove the pan with lifting the engine a few inches AND rotating the crank as you pull out the pan. Otherwise, the back end of the pan will hang-up on the crank's counter weights. This same process would apply to a 71-73 Mach1 Mustang.

Thanks people.

Stupid machine shop who did up the engine and put it back together failed to replace this "original" oilpan. Idiots.

I have done this twice. The engine needs to be lifted up just a few inches in order to slide out the old pan.

so in order to lift engine up a few inches, one must loosen the engine mounts?
