Re: engine wiring harness

is there anywhere i can view a diagram??? The haynes book from auto zone is not helping. the darn thing does not have gran torino so i am going to assume that 1976 elite, torino, ranchero, cougar, t bird, and montego diagram is the same as gran torino. is this accurate or am i crossing wires and cursing because everything keeps sparking

Re: engine wiring harness

As far as the wiring diagrams-I have a couple sets of ford service books, for 1972, 1973, and the 1975-1976 sets, and the main wiring diagrams are all seperate, they are not really shown in the regular service books.

I actually had to splice a 1972 and a 1976 engine harness together, but I had gotten an brand new New Old Stock harness of Ebay some time back for my 72 torino so I would have brand new connectors; I have changed mine round a bit, adding some stuff but trying to have it look factory {like for one, swapping out the points to a duraspark setup}

You will be hard pressed to find anything close to the original bulkhead connectors-best bet if you are trying to find a new harness for the engine-seriously, look on ebay, maybe 1972 - 1976 Torino NOS Parts Page , that site is Perogie, he has alot of NOS brand new ford stuff, might have a engine harness.

Other suggestion, look in some local yards, look for any mid-late 70's fords, like tbird, Elite, ltd/ltd/cougar/torino/ranchero, get an engine harness for the bulkhead connector, and basically run new wires from the bulkhead out to the engine?

I have seen the "ford muscle car" harness from painless in person -shrug- don't know...I guess to me, you have to still cut off and clip your light bulb sockets, etc, and everything else, just depends on how much you want to hassle with it. If I was completely gutting my Torino, replacing all the dash stuff, AC stuff with aftermarket, gauges, etc, I'd probably replace the harness, but All I've done is rewire my harness with a couple extra circuts using wiring off another Torino harness.

Good luck.

The Wiring Diagrams during this period were not included with the Shop Manual (unless you ordered the specific one), they were separate for all models.

There are three harnesses, engine, charging and lighting. Is the complete harness damaged/missing? You should be able to fab up a correct harness with a few visits to a salvage yard.

You should be able to release the pins at the bulhead connector and buy the pins to rewire if necessary. Connectors can be bought.

Re: engine wiring harness

I pulled off the engine and charging wiring harness out of a 76 Ranchero. Everything matches up almost identically, but I am not sure how good it is. Is there anywhere that I can ship my wiring harness to in order to have it rebuilt? How and where can I order the exact wiring diagram for the 1976 Limited Edition Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino without paying to be a member of some weird site? To answer the question about what happened to the old harness, when the car was shipped, the alternator fell off, ripping out the harness and it is somewhere between Arkansas and California. All I need is the wiring diagram....Thanks!
