68 GT 302 Power Steering

I replaced the power steering cylinder on my GT. It was never installed correctly from some previous installation. The Cylinder did not have the inside washer and rubber grommet so it was not secured to the frame. I have bolted the rod down to the frame with the washes and rubber grommets on both sides. My question is should the two 10 inch long pressure lines going from the control valve to the cylinder flex when you make a turn or do I have something wrong? (Should the distance from the control valve ports and the cylinder ports remain the same during turning?)The original set of lines started leaking a month after installing the new cylinder right at the crimp, I am thinking from flexing too much.

Yes, the the cylinder will move a little bit back and forth but the relationship between the control valve and cylinder does not change very much. Those are short hoses and are not designed to have a ton of slack. Getting the Bendix system arranged just right sometimes requires undoing and re-doing lines until they're where they should be. Get the lines organized correctly or they'll end up rubbing. What's most important is ensuring your lines match the correct ports. Do this wrong and you can hurt yourself.

Thanks, it is just what I was looking for, a great site. I was worried because when you turn right the distance between the cylinder ports and control valve were at their least amount and the hoses are bent into a drastic "U" shape. I think this is what caused the old hose to break. And yes I already found out what happens when you connect to the wrong ports, thankfully I did not have my hands near the steering wheel. Thank you for your time.
