Ford 460 Pistons.

I was wondering how to take out the Piston pins, they appear to be pressed in there are no jesus clips in them so I was trying to press it out, I took a punch and tried to smash the pin out(I will not be reusing this for the eingine, I just need the Piston Pin and the Piston). I was just wondering if they were pressed in there really hard or if there is something else holding that pin in. Thanks.

Yup, they are press fit and pretty tight. I have a tool set up to use with my 20 ton press. If ya aren't gonna try using them, BFH!

Re: Ford 460 Pistons.

if you are not worried about hurting the pistons then you can use a little heat to help loosen up the press fit. just heat the rod till it barley starts turning color and your good you will not hurt the rod as that is how they are installed. i am assuming that you are buying a crank kit and really have no use for the pistons, pins or rods.

1961 Falcon, 1963 Falcon Convertible, 1964 Fairlane, 1969 Bronco, 1973 Gran Torino, 1986 F-350 4X4 and a 2007 Focus Wagon Can your guess which on I drive every day?

Re: Ford 460 Pistons.

Heat the ROD END, then use the press. it's quicker.

Re: Ford 460 Pistons.

I just used a hydraulic press and they came out, made quite a creeking noise when it started to move.
