Need help sprucing up my 58F100

I recently purchases a 58 f100 6ft bed with solid frame rust free cab that has a D90e 302 aka 1979 302. The engine is solid but is a turd a whopping 140hp (factory specs). I am trying to keep the bottom end but I am looking to beef up the top end some on the cheap. A buddy of mine owns a junkyard and said I could have E7 heads or GT40p heads for 50 bucks. I was thinking about grabbing the GT40p heads and use the push arms and lifters from the motor its coming from to match wear. I have a Holley 600 and 750 double pumper laying around so you use one of those as the carb. Should I go with a mild cam? What would be a good intake? Its gonna be a daily driver so I am leaning towards the Holley 600. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Need help sprucing up my 58F100

The 600 will be just fine on the 302. I would go with early small chamber heads, an early timing set ('71 or earlier). In '72 Ford`retarded the cam 4*. Using a timing set from '71 or earlier will bring the cam back to 0 resulting in more power. Recurve your distributor ($7). That will warm it up a bit. Aluminum intake & if you desire a cam that matches the rpm range of the intake.
