Alternator help

I have a 88 f 150 with a 400 big block I just put in it. I'm trying to put a one wire alternator on it to bypass putting a computer on it. The only one that makes a single wire is gm. The sizing is very close and it should bolt up if I use a different sized spacer on one of the mount bolts. Should I do this or will it run my battery down when I have the key off?

Re: Alternator help

How exactly will a bolt and spacer make your battery run down after the engine is shut off?????

Re: Alternator help

You can check summit or jegs, they make a one wire gm style alternator with a ford case to mount right up. Put one on my 289 and works great. there are diodes build in to keep from draining your battery

Re: Alternator help

A long as all the diodes inside the case are good it will 'not' run your batt down when the key is off.
