Re: Opinions on an F-250

Its a 97 with an auto 4x4 76000 original miles and a 460 gasser. I would prefer the IH diesel but for the miles and the 5995$ price tag I think I can manage! The power steering pump whines pretty loud and it has about 1 and a half to two inches of steering wheel play but the tie rod ends appear to be tight.

Did you pay 6000 for it already or were you wanting opinions on purchasing it?

Damn trucks are expensive in your area. For 6000, would not touch it. We had crew cab duallys with diesels in Kansas going for that much. If it was 3500, id consider it.

I realize diesels grossly outlast the gassers but how many miles were on these trucks you speak of? An almost identical truck a year older with over 10,000 less miles went for the exact same price so they must be in higher demand in my area. May be worth the trip to kansas to buy one down there. Any suggestions where to look for trucks in your area? Any good dealers you know of? I want a Ford so I'm not really brand flexible.

Re: Opinions on an F-250

They range from 100K-125K in that range. I didn't realise you were looking at dealers though. The major Ford dealers in Kansas don't have trucks older than 8 years (don't ask me why, but they don't). There are several Super Duty Diesels for around 5000 privately with diesels. This is the average type truck for sale in the Wichita area: F350 Turbo Diesel Dually 1994
This is the lower end, but hey its a diesel: 1989 FORD F-250 7.3 liter Diesel 171k miles
I would never ever ever ever suggust a different truck other than a Ford. Craigslist is your friend. I know many dealers (smaller ones anyways) post in the dealer section.

Re: Opinions on an F-250

Dont have to buy from a dealer.....they do usually piss me off! Just curious what area craigs list to check out. I looked at kansas city and they're priced right around what they are up here. Gonna check wichita and topeka and see what I come up with. Found a 92 one ton single tire long box 4 door wirh the 7.3 na just over 100000 for just over 9000 but I prefer a turbo if im gonna go diesel.

Re: Opinions on an F-250

Sold my extended cab 7.3 idi diesel 1989 long bed, manual 5 speed truck for $2800 and it took 8 months to get that. I'd built the zf5, had a custom high end fuel system and installed an aftermarket turbo system etc.
I had already fixed everything and rust was non-existent.

Gas ones are worse off here. That 97 you posted would be a $2k-$3k truck here.

good luck.

Re: Opinions on an F-250

It sucks cause thats what their bringing around here right now. Doesn't really pay to drive south to find one cause I could get down there and find a piece of crap! Then what? Can't afford to cruise the country in search of a truck.......
