Sorry KULTULZ, missed this one. Did many an in-chassis "major" which is essentially a rebuild of a diesel in the frame. Usually a full rebuild, you just use the truck as an engine stand.

I'd do the same for a gasser if I had to, only have had to do one that way, dead on a construction site, needed a rebuild but had a good crank and decent bore. Can't say its the best way to do it, but in this case it did fine.

To the original poster, make sure they didn't knock off any boots anywhere, with the work they did, they SHOULD be sure they didn't blow off a boot to the intercooler or any of the other junctions, but you never know. All it takes is one that popped off and you have zero boost

My guess is the turbo core charge is valid though

Re: Deisel help please

The turbo for a 3406E model cat can run upwards of 3500.00$ The turbo "cartridge" that goes inside the turbo housing is 1000.00$ alone. Diesel work is expensive no matter who does it! If you have an amature do it and it isn't done right you will pay twice as much in the long run! They may be priced a little high because they know they have him by the short n curly's but I think they are a t least in the ballpark. Do your research and remember everything is negociable if you talk to the right person!

Re: Deisel help please

They need to run, not walk away from there. There's NO WAY two injectors failed at once along with a turbo. They're throwing parts at it.

What happened? Exactly?

Did it cough and die? Just cut out? If so it's the cam position sensor. It's by far the most likely problem.

What codes were thrown?

IS THERE ENOUGH OIL IN IT? Run it low on oil and the injectors won't fire.
