Ding ding ding ding ding! 01 f150 Q

I recently picked up a 2001 F-150 for a good price that needed a few things. I've got basically everything done, but now the thing that is really starting to bug me is the door latch chime. Sometimes it doesn't know when the door is closed, so the door ajar light stays on on the dash, and the dome lights stay on, as well as the chime. I've looked at new latches on ebay, but I don't see any connection for a plug on it at all. Is there a separate attachment that senses when the door is completely latched? Also, it chimes any time the door is open and the ignition is off. Im not sure if the 2 are related, but I would think they are 2 separate issues, so how do I fix the second issue?

I can only speak for the '92 F150 that I have, but you should be able to look around the door jamb and see the separate switch that will extend out when the door is opened. On my truck it is in the lower right corner of the driver door. I have also seen this switch by the hinges in the door jamb on other years. On my truck the chime will ring if the door is opened when the key is in the ignition, even in the off position, to prevent people from locking the keys in the truck. I also get a chime when the headlights are left on while opening the door, again to stop people from leaving the lights on. Hope this helps you out some.

Im guessing in 97 they went to a different style with the old plunger essentially integrated into the latch. If I hold the door open and close the latch by itself, sometimes the dinging will stop. Of course I have to unlatch it to actually close the door, at which point it resumes dinging.

I didn't realize that they changed in '97. Maybe there is some kind of sensor inside the door that mounts to the latch that you have a picture of. I only have manuals that cover up to '96 so your guess is as good as mine. Sorry I couldn't help you out.

The door ajar switch is separate from the latch. It is a quarter turn to remove. Check RockAuto for prices. Alot of the time by soaking the latch with WD40 or something like that it will free up the plunger.
