Anyone running Hedman Headers on a 97 EFI 460?

I've got my new 460 built for my 1997 F250 4X4 CCSB I'm going to try to get it installed before my surgery on the 17th. I purchased the Hedman Headers for my specific application and am looking for tips. Such as; the headers should be quite a bit hotter than the stock manifolds, I'm looking to wrap them and already have fiberglass protective boots for my plug wires, any other problems youve encountered? Fitment, how well did they bolt in and are there any modifications, bends, or alterations that i need to do ahead of time? Emmisions, "yeah I know I've got a battle ahead of me" I have the bungs pre welded in to install the O2 sensors and will most likely need a new Magnaflow cat because mine is currently filled with oil from my current grenaded engine, but have any of you passed emmisions with the headers installed and if so how? The engine I built is basically a completely rebuilt 1996 460 with new heads and a RV cam with "I can't remember the size" but the next size up injectors that are still relitivly small, the throttle body is stock with a little polishing on the inside and the intake has the internal horns removed. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Anyone running Hedman Headers on a 97 EFI 460?

See no one is helping your out. I had a set of Heddmans on my 67 Mustang, w 393 windsor. They are good headers, bolted right up, no issues.

I wouldnt mess with wrapping them, over kill in my opinion. I never run the wraps on my plug wires etc. Spark plug wire/boot technology has come so far that the wrapping of headers and wires of the 70s and 80s isnt really needed. Most folks do it because it looks cool? I dont think so, and wrapping the header just creates more rust. I did have to wrap one tube of mine as a cable clutch car, the cable passed between two tubes. When I took them off to go Big Block I was amazed how much more rusted that tube was under the wrap. And my car has never been driven in rain.

Best money you can spend is having them Ceramic Coated. Cost you a few hundred more, but well worth if for quality of finish, durability and further negating any heat issues. I have Nittro Coatings doing mine, I found them via 460 Ford.Com budds. They are the best price and best customer support. Sending them my BBF (532) headers soon, I think it came in a 325 bucks.

If your gonna get them coated, be sure to put them on, mocked up with all other stuff bolted on, welded on, so once you coat them your not having to ding them etc. I have never seen a set of headers that went on without requiring at least a ball peen adjustment here or there.

Hope this helps, see your user ID SARDOG, in TX? Retired CG myself, used ot be cheif of SAR for LANT/D5 when I retired.

Re: Anyone running Hedman Headers on a 97 EFI 460?

Thanks for the info, I haven't run headers on an engine install this tight or with as much extra EFI crap in the way. I've already got the headers and was considering finding someone local that would coat them after I made sure of the fit in the truck "aka adjust them with a hammer". I have however melted a wire on one back before I cut to fit and used good looms, and am probably over cautious with the boots. The truck isn't a pretty garage queen and the engine going in, won't have the pampered life my Galaxie has.

As for the screen name, guilty. I'm a 14 year Coastie, working out of south east Texas. I wanted to finish out the career path, but it looks like the upcoming med board for my shoulder is going to cut it short. Good to see a fellow SAR guy on here though.
