Ignition issue

I have a 1965 F100 with a 1983 302 engine. I am having issue with the engine stalling after I release the key to run. I replaced the duraspark ignition 12a199a hoping that it would correct the issue but still have the same issue. If I hold the key toward start the engine will run but stall after I release it. This issue just started and the truck has run fine over the last 5 years. I plan on replacing the ignition switch next to see if that is the issue but would like to get others opinion if they have run across this same issue. Thank you for your advice.

Re: Ignition issue

I had the same problem with my 64 Fairlane after I installed a 73 351c equipped with a Pro Comp electronic disc/coil. Turns out, the stock 260 coil required a resistive wire that limits the voltage. I by-passed the resistive wire (pink wire) between the ignition and firewall with a regular #14 stranded wire and it fired right up. To chick to see if this is your problem, run a jumper wire from the battery to the +terminal on the coil and see if it will start.

Good luck
