Wrapped up fordfest again this weekend. Great time as always. Much better weather than last year. Which was to my detriment but I got to see how the big girls really stacked up.
In the auto cross event I placed 57 of 81 in the auto cross. Not terrible concidering nearly everyone else was in mustangs with 275 wide tires or larger.
in the drag strip I got murdered as one does when handy capped with 3.00 gears and a three speed with a 2.42 first.
But I did get this great picture while staging.
But I will say she was a crowd pleaser. Without fail I’d hear people in the paddock constantly surprised to see a Galaxie and see it holding its own.
During the final event (start-steer-stop challenge) I got huge cheers from the crowd and I was told secondhand from someone in the crowd everyone was excited when the big Galaxie would roll up to the starting line.
Objective results for the drag strip shows disapointing mph. Probably influenced a bit by the poor gearing. But at face value, correcting for standard conditions the trap speed indicated only about 335hp at the wheel. ET was better than expected at a 15.6. Latter I cut two tenths off the 60’ so it could do 15.4 had I not run into some ignition issues past the 8th mile mark.
Next year I’m contemplating 200 tread wear tires instead of the current 300 I have now. And maybe Hotchkis front upper/lower arms. Or not. That is more money that wouldn’t necessarily give me more fun.
