Wrapped up fordfest again this weekend. Great time as always. Much better weather than last year. Which was to my detriment but I got to see how the big girls really stacked up.
In the auto cross event I placed 57 of 81 in the auto cross. Not terrible concidering nearly everyone else was in mustangs with 275 wide tires or larger.
in the drag strip I got murdered as one does when handy capped with 3.00 gears and a three speed with a 2.42 first.
But I did get this great picture while staging.

But I will say she was a crowd pleaser. Without fail I’d hear people in the paddock constantly surprised to see a Galaxie and see it holding its own.
During the final event (start-steer-stop challenge) I got huge cheers from the crowd and I was told secondhand from someone in the crowd everyone was excited when the big Galaxie would roll up to the starting line.

Objective results for the drag strip shows disapointing mph. Probably influenced a bit by the poor gearing. But at face value, correcting for standard conditions the trap speed indicated only about 335hp at the wheel. ET was better than expected at a 15.6. Latter I cut two tenths off the 60’ so it could do 15.4 had I not run into some ignition issues past the 8th mile mark.

Next year I’m contemplating 200 tread wear tires instead of the current 300 I have now. And maybe Hotchkis front upper/lower arms. Or not. That is more money that wouldn’t necessarily give me more fun.

I would be one of those watching and be giving that ol Gal kudos just for stepping up to the plate!! That alone is pretty awesome in my book! Sounds like you had a great time regardless of anything else and that's what matters most! 🙂 💪💚

I would up there cheering, too! People love the big ole underdogs.

1/4 mile times surprised me a bit, but I think you're right about the 3.00 and that 1st gear ratio doing in you. And that rear tire setup probably dropped the ratio a bit more so it wasn't really even a 3.00 once the tires started turning.

What ignition issues did you encounter?

Car looks the part in the photo, at least.

It looked the part in the water box too! Just no pics unfortunately.
All along it has been having sort of a soft limiter about 5600 before my rev limit of 5800.
on my second and third pass it was as if I ran out of gas or spark at around 5k. Engine changed note like a kill switch was hit. Not a limiter.
Need to confirm fuel was not running dry. Then I’ll move onto ignition checks.
I have 10° initial and 32° total but I do have trick flow heads. I was told 32 is the max with their higher efficiency chambers. Going to try 12 initial and 30 total. If things feel better then I’ll go dyno to fine tune it in.
