64 turn signal housing replacement.

Probably a dumb question but I’m stumped. I’m trying to remove the front bumper goat paint prep. I can’t figure out how to remove the turn signal housing. I thought there would be a simple way to disconnect the harness but if there is I’m missing it. It doesn’t help that there is something all over the harness itself masking it.

What am I doing wrong?

Also. How do I take off this badge?

That is undercoating, possibly from the factory, covering your lens assembly. If you remove it - carefully - the lamp socket will twist out. Or you can unplug it from the harness.

The badge has thread cutting nuts, so you might need a little pressure with a plastic trim tool while you loosen the other side. Mine was just glued/pressed in, probably from the repaint in the ‘70s.

Oh there is a spot where I cant break it loose from the harness farther back. I will look at that.

Where do you get your hand in to remove the nuts from the back? Closest I could see was in the door frame but it seems like you would have to remove the door to get to it.

look down in the opening by the hood hinge. factory badges didn't have the nuts, they were held in with barrel nuts. tapping them out a littleat a time from the back is great, but you'll likely have to pry from the front

X2...use a stiff putty knife to drive/wedge under badge gently pry up ..
go at it from a few directions...
worst scenario you have remove nut/bolt behind kick-panel and bottom of fender to pull lower fender out to get access from behind...

edit: looks like you figured it out while i was typing this...

I wish I could help more, but I pulled the fender off first . . .

They were barrel clips. Once I was sure I wasn’t going to break anything I got them off with a thin trim tool pretty easy.

That said these are behind the front wheels so you ain’t gettin to em from the headlight bucket lol.

I got the bumper off too. Disconnected them from the main harness.

Thanks!

Now I just gotta remove the door panels so I can take off the outer handles and locks. Remove the rear bumper and do a whole lot of masking.

Good to know. I think there are barrel clips holding my rear, “FORD,” letters that I hope to remove this afternoon.

Keep us posted on your project!

I actually removed those too. Same way. Though they were tighter to the body so it was harder to get started.

I had some trim removal tools I bought in an $8 kit from harbor freight. Made life easier. Basically a putty knife blade but notched so you can leverage around the prongs.

I have a small collection of those that I bought from an estate sale. They have been handy for removing trim, and I have used them to help install a windshield.
