Hi folks - 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner, orig shipped with a 352, has a replacement 390 in it now (happened prior to me). with an Edelbrock intake, Holley 4160 4bbl.

I'm trying to get it back to as near stock as possible, and the 390s shipped with gold T-bird valve covers and air cleaner in 1962.

The gold valve covers came today from ebay and I somehow missed the fact that they don't have holes in them for adding oil and providing vacuum.

Did the original engine have a spot for filling the oil? How about vacuum for the carb and Cruise-o-Matic? Where did that come from?

The 1958-1964 rocker covers had no provision for oil fill. That came in 1965. The 1965 390 did come through with gold covers, went to blue in 1966.

So to use those rocker covers (w/o butchering them) (and maintain the desired correct OEM ENGINE APPEARANCE), you would have to go with an earlier FORD intake. Your EDEL intake is a later design (1965- ).

yes. air entered at the oil fill through the mesh in the cap, went through the crankcase and out through the road draft tube. in stop and go traffic there was no flow through the engine because of no vacuum at the road draft. this prompted the use of the pcv valve in 63. in the L.A area as far back as 55 cars were retrofitted with pcv
